Unified Team Diving

Just successfully completed my Cave 1 course in Tulum with Nick Toussaint as the instructor and Richard Soos as my dive buddy. It was a challenging and thorough course, extremely enjoyable. Thanks to Vicente and David for their contributions! I am looking forward to continuing my association with UTD, this is a great agency that should only improve with time.

Congrats Jason :)
Great job.
Agreed. I'd recommend the course and location to anyone.

Sincere thanks to Nick and his team for a brilliant job. We had an amazing set of dives and experiences. Although the course material is in itself very good, the breadth and depth of experience and understanding in our tuition was great, really driving home the key points and providing solid explanation and rationale when required. We were pushed to our limits whilst always feeling in a well controlled and safe environment. I also welcomed the laid back attitude in which the subject, lessons, and post dive analyses were presented. I'm genuinely disappointed the course had to end (although I'll be happy to dive without so many failures ;-)

Thanks also Jason, it's been a hell of a lot of fun.
Congrats, guys.

Any chance of a class report? A few of us are looking to do C1 with Nick (probably also in Mexico) in the not too distant future.

In reading the course standards, a couple things stood out. One is the requirement for at least one "high flow" cave dive. Were you able to satisfy that requirement in Mexico, and if so where? (I talked to Jeff Seckendorf who said that it's not a deal breaker if no systems are available).

The other is the requirement for at least one dive to be in a drysuit. I planned on diving either wet or dry the whole time (don't want to haul both suits down), and was leaning towards the wetsuit because I don't want to damage my trilam doing blind exits. Did Nick enforce that standard?

Thanks!

Marc I wouldnt worry about the drysuit getting damaged honestly, I've done multiple blind and low-vis exits in my TLS and no issues.

For me it's a no-brainer, drysuit all the way especially for the longer 3+hr dives.

I dont know of any "high" flow caves in Mx(Tulum/PA) chac mool, dos palmos, dos ojos (by the barbie line) Gran Cenote (paseo lagarto) are caves with what I would call "noticeable" flow
Thanks guys!

We'll be doing a class report soon. Highly recommend Nick as your instructor, thorough and fun course. No high-flow systems available, looks like we will have to travel to Italy in the near future ;)

I have been diving dry the whole trip, also didn't want to pack more than necessary. I wouldn't worry about damaging your suit, just exercise good buoyancy and a gentle touch on the zero-viz skills.

Thanks for celebrating our success with us, and any more questions you may have feel free to ask.

Thanks Jason/Nick.

My short time in the cenotes earlier in the month did give me a bit of a wakeup call regarding temperature (brr).

Dry it is.
You will have much fun with Oliero flow. Cave diving with Nick is always a great pleasure, but he gives his best when is here in Italy.
The water is pretty cool, but you will enjoy diving with a flow up to 3.5/4 knots as I did with Nick more than once.

Waiting for you here
Leo

Thanks Leo, looking forward to it!
hei buddy
someone told me, you are coming back to mexico
I'll be a pleasure to see you again

Hello everyboddy
there is a couple of changes to have flow in mexico
just wait the right hour (change every day)
in cenotes Manati (casa cenote) and Cenote del Mar (oxbelha sistem) you start from the beach, where the sistem finish.
Some days there is no way you can go in without a scooter
cheers
