So, there's this beautiful lagoon five minutes north of the UTD office, and it looks like the perfect place to teach...it's pond-flat, beautiful setting, almost unused, I'm thinking, like, Gilligan's Island, or some other tropical paradise. So Dave and I took an hour off from his IDC to check it out. We toss on the tanks, walk past the giant sign that says No Swimming, and head in. The first sign that it wasn't going to be perfect is when I couldn't see my fin to tell if it was right side up or not. Plus the shin-deep mud walking in was another clue. Like we needed clues.
We drop down, I can't see Dave's light. So we go to touch contact and start kicking out. I still can't see his light. But we keep going, and going, and going, and we finally get to our max depth of 8' / 2.5m. Deeper than that, and the white dry gloves turn a nasty shade of brown from the mud.
Four minutes in we turn the dive. I look over and see what I think must be a huge white bath tub, or some other junk I expected to see. Nope, Dave's tanks. Kick toward shore a little, thumb the dive, head to the surface.
Our ascent profile brings new meaning to the term "min-deco." Oh, well.

Hey, this is exploration diving. The funniest part was walking out, when one of the women hanging on the beach, who clearly couldn't understand why anyone would dive in this water, suggested maybe we went in because someone lost a watch or something. Dave never missed a beat, telling her if someone lost a car in that water we'd never find it.

If you'd like to see the Vid Imax style, just put your head in a tepid bowl of chocolate milk and open your eyes.
Better to dive in a silty lagoon though than spend all day in an office :)
