I have been using Miflex hoses on my rec gear for some time now but haven't made the switch on my tech gear due to significant cost (and there is nothing wrong with my standard hoses). What is UTD stance on the Miflex hoses?

Hey Jay.

If they do the job, why not. I personally never really have seen a reason to upgrade, since I'm pretty happy with standard hoses.

I use them on my long hose, my inflator hose and my HP hose. Really enjoy using them and can't wait to change them all over to reduce weight for travel. The inflator hose works well and reduces the kinking coming form the first stage
The weight savings is around 30%..........significant considering the 30 Euro per kilo over airlines weight charge. I liked them for that plus the abrasion resistance and ease of routing (deco bottle reg/guage).
I use miflex hoses on all my equipment, and the only reason for me is the flexibility.
It is much eassier to store a miflex longhose away after the dive then the EPDM version.
On the stages....much comfortable then the EPDM rubber hoses.
30% is from the manufacturer (there are many hose producers, thus many different weights), I hate to say I'm not about to remove each hose and buy a fine measurement scale and see how many ounces I save. Perceived weight is fine with me, if I can lift my reg set and notice a difference thats a plus. As mentioned the real benefit is the flexibility of routing (no kinks) and a very durable abrasion resistant hose set. If you get a chance to put your hands on them, you'd be hard pressed to not be impressed.
Agree get weight saving and is easier to route. Had one of the older HP hoses that blew on me at start of sinkhole dive. Hopefully new ones now fixed after recall.
Even just for washing and moving nice top have lighter set easier to hang up, etc. Should update your hoses every few years anyway esp in high wear and tear diving

I use Miflex hoses 5+ years and very happy with them. Light, flexible and clean routing. The non-Miflex on my doubles set are HP and 19" wing inflator hose. I was about to replace HP hose with a Miflex version, but I did not like it... It's kinda thin one and does not look very reliable...
After a year of other people graciously doing QA on miflex hoses and witnessing one of them blow up in front of me, I'm now convinced that they are not only suboptimal due to funny elasticity but also downright dangerous - in particular HP hoses which I keep hearing are notoriously prone to exploding.

Some of the many things I picked up at DEMA (so many goodies under one roof!)  were a couple of HP Miflex hoses, a 6" and a 24". Having heard so many opinions about them (everyone seems to have one, whether they have tried them or not), I finally got around today to hooking them up to an O2 tank and my left post. The 6" seemed much less stressed than a rubber equivalent, which was the main reason for buying it. I was more skeptical about the long HP hose when I got it, it´s true, it looks sorta weird, but in the water I loved it, the rough feel felt solid (for some strange reason) and it bent beautifully under my arm when checking the gauge.

Obviously, it is too early to comment on reliability, but they both seem (albeit minor) improvements on their  rubber counterparts. I have been diving a Miflex hose on my backup reg for some time, I find it wraps closer around my neck, and I have had no issues, only good things to say about it.

Will they improve my diving? No, but considering the relative costs of rubber and miflex, they are worth trying, if nothing else.

all the best, Adam
