Unified Team Diving

Hi everyone

I've become a little more still in the water (less thrashing about) since I first started diving, and now I'm finding my hands are getting pretty cold during dives (Monterey CA area drysuit diving) . I've ordered a SiTech glove lock system and it comes with what I belive to be the Atlas 495 gloves (with liners). I was wondering if there are maybe other options out there like using the uninsulated versions, Atlas 620 or the 660 and maybe buying a size up to accomodate my own glove liners? Or maybe the other insulated Atlas, the 460? Which glove combos are warm yet still retain some dexterity.

Thanks
-Erik

Is it the new or old SiTech glove locking system? I've heard good things about the new ones, and so so about the old ones.

The SiTech gloves should be exchangeable with Atlas lined or unlined gloves. The sizing is off on those gloves, as I wear a large unlined (and my hands are regularly medium).

You shouldn't need to buy a size up, as the liner you buy should be similar in thickness as the insulated version.

My preference is the Atlas 660 since it offers more abrasion resistance than the 620, and it's very visible in our local waters. However, if dexterity is a concern, then I recommend Atlas 620.

As for liners, we use the Mountain Hardwear Power Stretch glove. I think that there are less expensive, but similar liners at REI, but the Mountain Hardwear fit well and are very flexible. Since they are removable, the dry gloves don't smell as much.
Thanks for the reply Don. I'll order up a couple pairs of the 660's to try out.

The SiTech system is the newer one.

Thanks

I've been using these for a while, as have a bunch of my buddies. They seem to hold up really well, and provide a good grip and lots of dexterity. The only thing I don't care for is that they're black. They work with viking rings and DC rings, I don't know about SiTech.

Thanks Jake,

I'll take a look at those if the Atlas 660's don't work out.

New to UTD and just poking around. Thought I'd add my $.02. I use something similar to Jake. I bought two pair just in case and have been on the first one for about 40 or 50 dives in Monterey. I would avoid using anything with a built in liner and buy whatever fleece gloves you can find on sale at REI or Big 5.

Since I originally posted this I've been using the Atlas 660 gloves and some North Face powerstretch polartech liners. They've been working pretty well. I really like these new SiTech Glove locks, super duper easy to swap out gloves or remove the rings from the seals (as soon as I heap up the praise for them, they'll probably leak or something). The nice thing with the blue gloves over the darker ones is I think its probably a little easier for team mates to see the hand signals from the blue gloves under water (nice contrast against the dark drysuit) even if you don't have the hand signals fully lit.

Thanks

I use the Viking bayonet ring system and I like it but I have had to ask a buddy to twist them off for me a time or two. I looked around online after your post and the SiTech look pretty slick. Might have to go that route if I get fed up with the Viking. It's a good point you make about the blue gloves. I hadn't really thought about that since all the wet gloves I've used or seen are black. Hmmm...food for thought. Thanks.
I've been using a pair of marigold latex rubber gloves inverted (white on the outside), and stretch them around the dry rings (sitech gloves). Works like a charm, and pretty cheap.

The sitech cuffs leaked too much, and it was too easy to crush the oring.
I've also been using the Marigold gloves reversed with the white side out...really easy to see underwater. Don't hesitate to turn the gloves from Harbor Freight inside-out to make thtem more visible.
