Safety Divers........When?

Hi Todd. More pragmatically than a safety diver for our local tech shore dives is a gear assistant, or sherpa. The generally long walk from car to water (like we had a La Jolla) makes hauling bottles and scooters cumbersome at best, and sometimes just impossible. So the person I want here in Los Angeles is someone who can clip on four bottles and two scooters and wade through the surf with us, then wait an hour and a half, then help us back out of the water. But that takes a good friend. :)

On a shore dive, how are the safety diver(s) going to find you on ascent? I presume you'll be swimming upslope or doing a free ascent in an emergency?
