I just finished a stage mini with Elliott Jessup in preparation for Tech 1. I normally don't post class reports (I know I should) but Elliott was such a great instructor I felt a post was absolutely necessary. The class came together in a very short time (emailed him on a Thursday and was in the water on Sunday), but Elliot was very flexible and very well prepared. We started the day with a review of stage equipment. I had already setup a stage for a TDI class and Elliott helped me to refine the setup. He didn't just point out suggestions, he took the time to explain why he was making the suggestions. It was a very reasoned approach. We then did a series of dry runs (bottle switch, bottle stow, bottle rotation and deco/stage s-drill). After a thorough dive planning session, we suited up and hit the water. The conditions at the breakwater were far from ideal today, but the drills on the bottom went well. Elliott provided real-time feedback and by the third time deploying and stowing the stage reg I felt very comfortable. Bottle passing and s-drills also went very well.
I would highly recommend taking a class from Elliott. He is clearly knowledgable, but more importantly he is a relaxed and helpful instructor. I will definitely be taking more training from him.
