Unified Team Diving

I'm not UTD trained, but thinking of taking some courses. I have TDI Adv Nitrox/Deco behind me and want to just meet up with some UTD guys to dive with, ask some questions, etc.

I'm in the Comox Valley, but will drive down to Nanaimo/Parksville area on short notice or even Vic schedule permitting.

I heard there were some "tech" guys doing some shore diving around Parksville, looking to give that a shot if that's some of you

fire me an email if you have any questions about my experience, gear config, etc

How are you. I have not taken any courses yet either but I did take the GUE fundies course. I am always interested in diving and finding a tec oriented partner is hard. The main hob seems to be in Victory and I have found it to be somewhat hard to break into.
I started diving with a local store that promotes TDI tech training and there are a some good divers in the mix.
There are a lot of drills to go over for the basic program and having a partner helps for training. My problem is reaching my valves for that specific drill.

Do you dive doubles? I believe UTD like GUE looks to people to dive doubles for tech training.
I live in Victoria and often head up to comox for weekends. I dive with a small DIR group & a UTD technical instructor in Victoria. We're always happy to dive & meet other UTD/GUE like minded divers. Drop me an email & maybe we can help grow our Vancouver Island DIR community.

Cheers

Hi Bill,
I am a TDI INSTRUCTOR TRAINER here in SURREY BC ( VANCOUVER AREA) my suggestion to you with your issue reaching your valves you may want to try adjusting your tanks either lifting them higher or lowering them on your bands, it takes time finding the right position good luck and if you are ever on the other side of the pond yuor welcome to come for a dive with our group and pls check out face book for a site call BC TECH DIVERS ,a club starting up for tech divers in BC

Hi Bill,
You are refering to reaching valves on doubles or singles?

I had a similar problem, and I found that tinkering with the harness and backplate position, and considering your undergarments and the flexibility you have, make a difference.
I suggest you try a number of adjustments, and from a process of elimination, figure out where the problem is. i.e. it may be your reach, position of your backplate, your undergarments, your drysuit or a combination of the above. As an example, try a short dive with limited undergarments and see if that improves your reach. If successful, that demonstrates that reach is not a problem. After tinkering with your harness/undergarments, it should be enough to get the job done. p.s. I hear that reaching the valves on 130's is fractional farther than on 100's as the 130's have a larger diameter. Good luck Bill and hope this helps! p.s. ever dive in vancouver?
