As Instructors and Divemasters:

  • We are dedicated to teaching people to become "Thinking Divers."
  • We have the best leadership support materials ever produced.
  • We work with the highest set of Standards and Procedures in the industry.
  • We are leaders in the scuba community and belong to an ever growing social network for UTD divers.
  • We are supported by a Headquarters that responds quickly and effectively to our students and personal needs.
  • We are supported with a full and comprehensive set of materials for our students.
  • Most importantly, we have fun teaching and diving.

  • The Divemaster Development Course

A UTD Divemaster may work as as a Divemaster and/or an assistant to a UTD Instructor on any level class that the DM is rated for as a diver. In other words, a diver who has completed UTD Tech 2, may work as a Divemaster to the limits of the Tech 2 certification.

UTD's Divemaster Leadership program has three components - class preparation, academic, and the in-water module.

Course work focuses on safety. Divemaster candidates will be expected to understand and present UTD material on:

  • Rescue and Emergency Procedures
  • Gas Management and Planning
  • UTD Equipment Configuration
  • Teaching Techniques and Assisting UTD Instructors
  • Student Paperwork, Insurance, and other Administrative Elements of Teaching

Candidates will demonstrate leadership skills on boat dives, shore dives, night dives, and in classes up to their level of training. Much focus will be on working with UTD students and guiding UTD divers.

We maintain a private group on the UTD website that offers a discussion forum and a place for UTD Divemasters to communicate with each other and UTD HQ.

Schedule an Interview

Your first step to becoming a UTD Divemaster is a short telephone (or Skype) interview. Contact HQ at to schedule this interview. This gives us time to talk about your diving background, the DM program and schedule, and how we can support you once you become a UTD Divemaster. We may ask you to submit a short video of yourself performing personal skills - basic 6, s-drill, valve drill, and bag shoot. This will help us evaluate where in the program you are best placed.

The Costs

The Registration and Classroom Modules are combined into a package that includes your registration and first year's DM Membership ($325).

The Leadership Module is the academic and water portion of the program ($1000).

The complete DM package (includes the Registration and Classroom modules and the Leadership module, $1200).

At UTD we understand that sometimes paying the entire Divemaster package fee can be tough, so we offer a monthly payment system for those who wish to pay over time. Here are the details:

You pay a deposit of $350, followed by 24 monthly payments of $60 each. These payments will be automatically billed to your credit card or paypal account. After 24 months you are done. This gives you an opportunity to complete the DM training program long before you have completely paid for it.
