MX-Z Rebreather - SPG for Diluent/Bailout BackGas
We connect the pressure gauge directly to each of the diluent/bailout gas tanks like standard UTD Z-System configuration. This is done using a 6”/15cm hose and the gauge secured facing upwards, using a bungee, to be in plain view of the diver. As a side-note: When diving the MX-Z in the backmount configuration it is connected to the left post following standard UTD/DIR configuration. This allows us to not only read the gas pressure of these manifolded backgas tanks during dive operations, but also in emergencies when we have bailed out. Keep in mind that recognizing other issues, such as manifold isolators are closed or left post is rolled off, is a lot harder on an RB than on open circuit, as we barely use any diluent/bailout or backgas to drive the rebreather and therefore the old “tell tale” sign of the isolator being closed or left post is rolled off and the gauge not moving down while diving does not work as well on the MX Series Rebreather Configuration.
Regular Flow checks become an important tool to identify any issues with the tank valves, gas addition systems and so on.
