Yes, the harness and wing are REALLY comfortable and functional (and familiar)!

Nice writeup, Lynne. It's good to see someone who doesn't monkey sidemount regularly get right into it (fit issues aside) and have it be functional.

Thank you for your response, Andrew!  I definitely agree that the isolator is also a potential loss of redundancy (which is why Jeff Bozanic has written essays proposing that we shouldn't use them).  And I also agree that the block…

Lynn Firstly, thank you very much for taking the time to come out and try the Z-System. I very much appreciate people who take the time to try, learn and actually use something new prior to simply going out on to the internet and typing their…

Playing with the Z-system

To my pleasure, I got a phone call the other day from Brian Wiederspan, informing me that Jeff Seckendorff was going to come up for the Essentials class at the Aquarium, and would be bringing a couple of Z-system rigs with him.  Did Peter and I, Brian asked, want to join Jeff in the pool to play with the rigs?  The answer was obvious . . . So yesterday, through the graciousness of the Seattle Underwater Sports store (which allowed us to use their pool), we got to spend a half hour or so seeing…See More

Richard, is this instead of the earlier March dates?  I can't do this one; I'll be in MX.

First post-Tech 1 dive!

Posted on September 13, 2009 at 10:18pm 2 Comments

Bob Bailey, Peter and I went out and did Davidson Rock today off our boat. Davidson is a pinnacle in the middle of Rosario Strait, and you can pick your depth -- I believe the bottom is about 180, but I wouldn't know . . . At any rate, our plan was an average of 120 for 30, on 25/25, with O2 deco.

We had PERFECT conditions for the dive -- warm air, no wind, glass-smooth water, and slack which came precisely when I had calculated it would. Viz was excellent (at least 30 feet), and the… Continue

5/24/09 - Tech 1, Day 3

Posted on May 24, 2009 at 6:46pm 11 Comments

This morning began with me rummaging around the basement for various things. Peter said, "I suppose you are looking for your fun?" From deep inside the downstairs refrigerator, I muttered, "No, my buoyancy control."

Well, it must have been in the frig, because I certainly had it back with me today, which was an ENORMOUS relief.

We were back at O. O. Denny Park, but it was a bit of a different lake today. A stiff breeze was blowing, and moving a suprising amount of water.… Continue

Well, today we dove. Sort of. Maybe. Depending on your definitions.

A UTD instructor, it turns out, doesn't really have to DO anything to cause trouble. He just has to be present, and the students will cause their own problems. I think Brian airgunned two people and took off two masks in the whole day; the rest of the mayhem we did to ourselves.

The verdict: Adequate personal skills and no sense of team whatsoever (we were nicknamed "the Anti-Team divers"). And nobody… Continue

5/22/2009 - Tech 1, Day 1

Posted on May 22, 2009 at 10:00pm 1 Comment

We had classroom work tonight. I was enormously relieved to find I was not the only person who had found the online classroom and the exam not to dovetail particularly well. Brian promises me that the stuff I'm confused about on the exam will be easy-peasey when properly explained. I am at best cautiously optimistic.

We did dry runs of bottle handling, and I discovered Brian and Jeanna have the PERFECT elastic bands on their 40's -- ones which will retain a reg but which are soft… Continue

Absolutely! When you get back, shoot me a line and we'll set up a dive or two, maybe use Boydski's book or something. Any sites in particular you wanted to dive?

Hi Lynne,

Thanks for the kind words. I've taken a bit of a break from diving, but I am getting active again. I've missed it a lot and interacting with so many great friends I've made over the years. It feels so good to be back! :)

Dive safe and I'll see you around the boards,

Scott

Glad to see you're involved too.
I'm looking forward to gettin' back in the water. Not sure exactly when, but my little break has allowed me to catch up on all of the projects around the house....which keeps the wifey happy....and happy wife=happy life....:-).

Dive safe!!

Hi Lynne,

Great story about your second day in the Inlet. Happy to hear that you managed to salvage at least one dive.

Thank you again for a lovely evening and dinner. It is very nice to establish a productive cross border relationship. Please keep me posted on your dive plans and we'll do the same on this side.

Also, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about any of the training offered by UTD. I'll be happy to help, whichever way I can.
