I have made quite a few of these tools which work exceedingly well, based on Ken's description of the tool he devised. I'd be happy to send one. $15 will land you one to any Zip in the lower 48. Seattle Marine is the go-to for replacement gloves.…

Very interesting. Thank you. I wonder about CO2 in a repetitive dive situation however. Thoughts, anyone.

Hi This was in the American College of Sport Medecine. Normal to be fit when diving, being rec or tec. Here it states that mild exercice at last stop increase blood flow and therefore help offgassing. How about that?...Bring your exercice bike on n…

Any pictures of your setup, Jeff?

I really like the bungee handle setup, though I have only used it a few times so far. I wonder about the durability of the rubber O ring clip on the other end, however... Do you think some sort of steel ring would be better?
July 19, 2009
Yes, I would love it if some more of the UTD leadership could chime in on this subject. Great point. Excersize does up our CO2 loading and DAN cautions against too much re DCS. Thoughts?

On the flip side, is there ever a point when you can exercise too much? I train for tri's and marathons, so having daily workouts of 2-4 hours is pretty normal for me. I do limit my self to one shallow dive, the day before any big effort. I also pre…

Brian, 250 calories per meal?? That's like 2 carrots or 25% for a snausage. Michael, Cameron Martz has a good book you might want to reference: http://www.divefitness.com/html/guides.html

I do intense cardio, either riding or running or both, 3-5 times/week. I also do some yoga and some weightlifting. I think the important thing is to do something. I would give priority to cardio, at least a few times a week, and then strength/flexib…

Good question, Michael. We don't have a specific or suggested fitness plan, though we all believe that being in physical shape makes for safer and more enjoyable dives. Personally, I do cardio for at least 35-40 minutes, 4 days per week and do wei…

Seeing A.G. bang out a triathlon got me to thinking. As we all know, fitness has a impact on our resistance to DCS and is otherwise important to safe diving. Does UTD have a suggested fitness plan for its divers? What strength, flexibility, and card…

Oh, and I thought I'd add that I have a right shoulder with reduced range of motion, because of past surgery . . . And I have the wrist gauges and the whole nine yards. Sometimes it IS a bit of a pain to get in and out of the harness, but if I'm rea…

About me:
I was one of those kids who grew up watching the Jacques Cousteau every week and dreaming of diving. My first SCUBA was a milk jug duck taped to a straw that I tried to squeeze air out of at a local swimming pool. Ironically, I started "commercial" diving before I was a certified rec diver when I got a summer job at 15 with a company that installed pilings along river front homes in northern Michigan. My job was to sit at the bottom with a waterjet and assist the piling driver for hours at a time with a continual air supply. It was cold and zero vis. I remember the cold and the vertigo interrupted by the constant clank of the pile driver. Certified through SSI at 16, I dove the cold waters of Michigan inland and great lakes until my first trip to the Florida Keys at 19. The ocean blew me away and I was hooked for life. Received my advanced open water through PADI in 1991. I am currently also certified in Nitrox though PADI and drysuits through SSI. I have also (as of July, 2009, also UTD Essentials and Ratio Deco with Rec 3 pending in 2 weeks!) In addition to the Great Lakes and Keys, I have dove in California, Jamaica, Aruba, Bonaire, Roaton Honduras, Maylasia, Cayman Islands, and many trips to my first (reef) love, Cozumel, Mexico. Technical and deep diving has always fascinated me and I have finally decided that the time has come to further enhance my training and skills and explore beyond traditional recreational limits and training. I have known UTD Instructor James Mott for a number of years and his enthusiasm for UTD (as well as his tremendous experience and knowledge of technical diving) persuaded me to go UTD. I will blog my progress and would love to meet like minded individuals. Hit me up. All the best, Mike

Salvo gone? Say it ain't so?

I just picked this up on decostop: "Unfortunately, due to the never ending litigation with Halcyon we are closing the doors permanently on Tuesday, June 30th, 2009. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your support through our colorful history. If you have an order or a repair on the books with us it will be processed and completed, but we are no longer booking new orders.

UTD thanks for the great customer service!

I want share a recent experience I had with UTD customer service. I was signing up for another class with James Mott at Sea the World Scuba in Farmington Hills Michigan after really enjoying the Essentials and the Ratio Deco (with Andrew G and James). I mistakenly purchased the online class for Technical Diver as well as the CD. After talking with James, I realized that the class coming up was actually REC 3. I sent an email to Jeff Seckendorf and within less than 24 hours he switched me to Rec… Continue

UTD Essentials - an essential class for any diver at any level - WOW!

I just finished the UTD Essentials class taught by James Mott, a UTD instructor and manager of Sea the World Scuba in Farmington Hills, Michigan. I would some up the experience with one word: Wow!

To explain, I need to give you some of my background. Although I would never have considered myself anywhere near an "expert" diver, I am 42 years old and received my Open Water Certification at the age of 16 from another agency. In 1991, after well over 200 dives, I went on to acquire my Advanced Ope… Continue

Mike,

Next weekend is not going to work for me. We are doing some major network infrastructure changes at work and I'll be there most of the weekend.

Are you still looking at trying to get to Gilboa early on Friday the 29th?
If so I can set you up with my buddy, and there is a chance that I may be able to make it down for the day too.
