Handling a real-world issue on the MX90

Posted on April 26, 2011 at 12:12pm 2 Comments

I was doing some practice dives on the MX last week. The planned dive was drop down to around 160 on scooters at Ship Rock on Catalina Island, then slowly spiral up around the pinnacle into the shallows for around a 60 minute dive (to match up with the boats required schedule)

We had practiced a bunch of skills in mCCR2, but up until that point, the only real issue I had experience was water in the exhale counterlungs and some leaks in the BOV

Fun MX Dive on the Palawan

Posted on April 11, 2011 at 10:35pm 0 Comments

Finally got my new Golem Shrimp BOV for the MX, and that sealed up the last leak.

Went out for a fun dive on the Palawan off Redondo beach, piggybacking off of Shawn and Tony's Tech1 experience dives.

Luckily the worst of the weather had passed, and we had a decent 15-20 foot of greenish water with just a slow rolling swell and no current.

Did 30 mins at 110 feet, saw the wreck twice, a nice flyby by a sea lion, and some nice schooling…

Georgia/palawan with some out of town guests

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 9:55am 2 Comments

I was looking for some dives to do to exercise my "New Found" CCR skills

after our mCCR 2 class, and gain some more experience, so it seems

perfect that Rob, Allison and Clinton were going to be in town for the

weekend, and Justin Daniels was also planning to do some diving while in

the LA area.

We booked the Island Diver out of Rocky Point/Redondo for the day, as

the boat is fast, well run and close to some nice dive sites.

We planned for 3 dives,… Continue

UB88 Article in California Diver magazine

Posted on November 1, 2010 at 2:46pm 0 Comments

Hey all, just a quick note that an article I put together on diving the UB88 in San Pedro harbor, as well as a pretty nice shot of Jamie on the SuJac at Casino point are both in the current print edition of California Diver magazine (http://www.californiadiver.com/)

For those of us in SoCal, it would be great to buy an issue or subscribe if we want to keep this magazine around...

UTD mCCR2 Experience dive "Buoy B, San Diego"

Posted on October 20, 2010 at 9:16am 1 Comment

Having completed the skills section of the mCCR2, it was now time for the experience dives.

We met up with Danny Howard of the Yellow Boat at 8am on Saturday. Initially we were going to be two teams of two, but due to a cancellation, myself, Roger Bly and Andrew G changed plans to dive as a threesome.

The plan was for about 30 minutes at an average of 150 feet in the Buoy B area of San Diego. This buoy is located on the edge of the submarine canyon. The interesting features… Continue
