Hi Shawn, Rec 3 and Tech 1 are very different in where they lead. For divers who want to stay at recreational depths in single tanks, Rec 3 is perfect, because it teaches proper ascent strategies and offers a little helium for clearer thinking in t…

I'd suggest you get through Rec 2, then do a bunch of dives at that level, THEN you'll find yourself in a better position to decide if Rec 3 or Tech 1 is the better choice.

Greetings! After completing Rec2 (not there yet) I had planned to eventually take Rec3 and then one day Tech 1. I was reading the class descriptions and Tech 1 actually sounds like Rec2 + Rec3 + single deco bottle. Why then would people take Rec3 in…

That’s interesting I have always worked on 150' (45m) 220' (66m) and 270' (81m) as set my points With regard to the 45m dive again I have always done a 1m/min ascent from 6m and one of the restrictions / limitations of running a computer was it wo…

Mark You and others are always welcome to post, discuss and question me or any of our methods right here on this forum or board. I welcome good healthy discussions because ultimately that is how we all learn from one another. So please never feel t…

For the sake of discussion, hear is a piece I wrote a few years ago on a comparison of RD on a shallow dive and a 65m dive. I was running 10/85 deco in those days as this was a one of the fixed set of options on my Hammer Head computer. Clare Gledh…

I am familiar with the max deco profile (or at least GI3's one) but I had thought that was something thrashed out with Hamilton rather than any form of actual ratio deco? Also, with a spell on 02 at 30' id assume it was habitat only? In the GUE tec…

Mark I very much appreciate your answer, but want to be sure that you understand that your approach is different to my approach. Both the Bulhman and VPM models, I feel, are incorrect ESPECIALLY when doing longer bottom times, they really expose ho…

Unless there’s some new magic I am unaware of Ratio deco is and always has been a ball park approximation of actual decompression tables and it needs experimentation and comparison in order to be useful. QED it is not a decompression theory in its…

Am I to take this to mean that the tissue loading (of N2, say) at the end of Ratio Deco should be less than ambient at the surface regardless of what the ambient surface partial pressure is?

near the end you mentioned you used an Exploration LED light, is that the maker or was it something like an H or Light Monkey, etc? Just curious. This was a great read was a great read.

The Recreational Diver 2 course is the next step for divers wishing to expand their limits to slightly deeper depths without venturing into decompression. The class is structured to prepare divers for a wider range of environment conditions, deeper…

I have not been through the Ratio Deco class, but can you elaborate on this a little bit? We are not talking about surface stuff here. If I am diving at 8000 feet, how would Ratio Deco factor in the additional theoretical depth at altitude?

Congrats Kelli! Those pics look awesome! Must have been so much fun (and no doubt hard work). Look forward to diving with ya in the future. There are lots of awesome divers in this group. It is such a wonderful time to be a diver in SoCal.
