Hi , I have been using Dbl LP 85's with 21/35 and AL 40 with 50% for dives in the 160' range.V -planner only requires 12 cf of 50% and 9 cf of 02. Is there a problem using an Al30 for 50% and AL 20…Continue

A 55# is good for what your diving with, but the general consensus is a 40# is good with AL 80's. LP 85's have almost the same characteristics.

40lbs is a bit small imho which is why I use the 55lbs. But here in the east I'm using a trilam drysuit, doub 130's with deco and stage bottles.

Hey Harvy, I tried diving with a borrowed 40# Explorer yesterday, but had to abort the dive upon entry from dive boat due to lost fin while trying to submerge. I was the first to enter so, consequently, had to hang out on the surface for about 10…

I've been using a 55lb Explorer for years now and I really like it. Some folks have tried the donut style and like them as well. I haven't used the Evolve style so can't honestly have any opinion on it. Just know that my explorer has…

Towing your buddy on a scooter is a viable contingency in a current (current 1) to stiff to swim back. It's not in a current (current 2) to stiff to motor back. current 1 << current 2 There's no contingency for broken jon line (which…

"Enough juice" is hardly a backup plan, and it doesn't account for current too strong for your scooter. I've watched Andy trigger up to 5 on my Sierra and not make any headway. No way could it have pulled two of us back to the…

Obviously you plan and take enough juice to complete the whole deco on scooter running with someone in tow. If your scooter is running at capacity just to stay on a line it's no different from jon line. You have to have extra horsepower. Doing…

What's the backup for a failed scooter when you can't kick against the current?

If I absolutely don't want to loose the line I would opt for team on scooters. There's no backup for failed jon line.

A scooter is a good option, but it's not infallible. If I have a scooter and the current isn't too strong to kick against, I'll opt for the scooter. But if I can't kick against the current, I'll opt for a jon line. I…

You know, as I recall, there was an extremely long and sometimes acrimonious discussion on the Quest list a number of years ago about this. What I took away from reading the whole thing was that a) conditions vary in different locations and b) the…

Fellas, knock yourselves out, hang on the anchor line as much as you wish. The reality up here for deco dives its either impossible (even a jon line would be awful so you must drift) or its not necessary to actually attach yourself to the line (grab…

No chase boats in South FL. 50'/100' safety line with bouy tied to end on surface, then tied off to stern cieat. Same conditions hear with fog, but I don't thing as bad as you guys. The saying here is, if you don't like the…

On rec dives I carry a 1" nylon strap 6' long with a loop on one end and sucide clip on the other for wrecks that are hooked in. I read some DIR posts they recommend to just use a spool instead of a jon line, 1 less thing to carry. Anyway…
