5/22/2009 - Tech 1, Day 1

We had classroom work tonight. I was enormously relieved to find I was not the only person who had found the online classroom and the exam not to dovetail particularly well. Brian promises me that the stuff I'm confused about on the exam will be easy-peasey when properly explained. I am at best cautiously optimistic.

We did dry runs of bottle handling, and I discovered Brian and Jeanna have the PERFECT elastic bands on their 40's -- ones which will retain a reg but which are soft enough for arthritic hands to manage. They don't know what they are, but they're in a bucket to the right of the door at Seattle Marine. Brian liked the wheelbarrow inner tube I had well enough, so we traded. I may actually manage restowing tomorrow -- this is a happy thing.

We discussed the ground rules and what we will be doing tomorrow. Tomorrow shouldn't be too bad, although the viz will be horrible anywhere we go. If I can't get through personal skills after Fundies and Rec Triox and Helitrox and Cave 1, somebody should shoot me.

Mel and I agreed that some variation on "Team Granny" is an appropriate title for two women who can't read the print on their cell phones without their glasses.
