I just finished the second UTD Instructor Crossover in the Red Sea, Egypt. We had a total of 18 instructors apply for the course. For a variety of reasons we only accepted 5 candidates. They came from different areas throughout Europe. We had one from Denmark, one from Italy, 2 from Poland and one from Spain. The IDC class was conducted on the M/V Tala liveaboard (www.redseaexplorers.com) which is based out of Hurghard. The candidates arrived in Hurghard on Friday night March 6, 2009 and by Saturday March 7, 2009 they were immediately submerged into the IDC course. We started with a full day of Ratio Deco, followed by Standards and Procedures, UTD Ethos, the UTD Protocols and Procedures (The Playbook), Teaching Methodologies and then onto a detailed look at each of the programs starting with Recreational 1 and finishing Trimix 1. This was a very full and intense 10 days (12 hours per day) and the candidates did an excellent job and listening, understanding, translating and then pretend teaching. UTD has a full curriculum and there is a wealth of knowledge to cover, making the crossover almost too short at 10 days long. However we did manage to finish and we now have 5 new excellent Instructors. 3 of which became Trimix 1 rated, 1 completed his cave 3 rating and 1 completed his Recreational 1 and Essentials rating. This was a very successful IDC and I am certainly looking forward to seeing the results in their students.
On a side note: UTD will soon begin translations into Polish, Italian and Spanish. Stay Tuned.
Andrew
