I have found my utopia; and what a place to venture to. This place exists just beyond the shore, and many feet below the ever changing surface of the sea. I discovered a wonderful place where I feel the pressures on my body and spirit lift in a weightless arena. Gliding over a palette of coral where Muppet faced tiny fish called Blennies hide within the living walls they reside. In the wild, the lobsters' armor looks alive like sparked flint with facets of red and green. Only on a night dive can all the colors of the ocean be seen. How quickly a rust red octopus turns to a luminescent blue in the shallow moon lit waters. The great violet cone sponges that grow off the coral wall give home to many brittle stars that drift and dance in a sultry rush of water. The sponges also give home to damsels and tiny hermit crabs that flee in frantic retreat to anywhere but where I disturb the quiet of their private lives. I always seem to cross paths with a pair of emperor angel fish that have chosen each other for companions on life's journey. In my utopia, one may find solace that only the ocean can provide. Floating quiet and still-hearted in the water I can let myself be soothed to a peaceful calm by the gentle waving of the seaweed that clings to the ocean floor. I allow my mind to wander in and out of reality yet a while longer before I return to the surface and to the hustle of my life. There in the ocean, amongst the multicolored angelfish and vast clouds of sparkling silversides I can find escape. I've heard people refer to non mammalian sea creatures as if they were without their own uniqueness, but I know where the truth lies with that. There are a countless myriad of people, including myself, that find life not without its mysteries. We are often hidden like life itself, like the decorator crab in his many camouflage facets. Unlike above the surface, sharks traveling the reef are set apart in intense watchfulness and energy containment. A spotted moray eel intensely searches my intentions. All creatures are different, each with their own unique essence and quality. Ultimately, I believe there is to be something said for being in a place that can only be temporary. Often feeling a loss to know the end is inevitable. Would it not steal some of the awe and excitement that wells up within me whenever I plunge into the depths of this other reality? Every goodbye has finale, hopefully filled with the love and joy of a genuine experience. The knowing that time can never be waited on, and yet hope for another serendipitous time. In my crudity, I admire the graceful and ponderous manta ray shower a tremendous shudder through my soul. Staring up at this intense being I become entranced with the sun's light filtering through the water's surface. Soft rays of shimmering light inspire me to look at familiar energy in my life in a new way.
