So, why do a UTD Signature Series Equipment Line?

Four years ago I was very frustrated with my training agency at that time, for not having training materials that support the way I dive and support my training philosophies. So I decided to develop training DVD's that became very popular among the DIR/GUE/Hogarthian crowd. Later I added Power Points and other support materials for instructors wanting to teach using my methods. Then we formalized it two years ago into a training agency and over the last year Jeff and I, along with the UTD Instructor core, developed one of the most progressive training agencies in the world, with some of the highest standards ever created, and we produced a full set of online supporting materials for both students and instructors. We have now been formally doing business for over a year and during that time we've sold over 1300 courses and built a membership of over 1500 divers. We reach over 6000 divers worldwide through various social networks.

During these past few years I also have became increasing frustrated with the quality, design, recalls and features of the equipment that's available to support our diving philosophy and needs. So, to address this issue, we (UTD) put our heads together with our instructors and formed a Equipment Research and Development Team (R&D group) and over the last year they have been working directly with a variety of vendors and manufacturers to develop, test and generate the new ideas in a wide variety of products. None of these R&D Team Members get anything for free, they have to buy these "prototypes," dive them, and suggest and make changes as we need to ensure they meet our needs. We also have to pay for those changes but in the end we all discuss, argue and eventually get the products from the vendors and manufacturers the way we want them and what we, as UTD and the Instructor core want for our UTD Members. We have branded these products as UTD Signature Series Equipment, and the team continues to work to find more of the best gear out there.
